The Peak Adventure promotes and explores the idea of being adventurous. Having an adventurous mind-set enables creative solutions to be formulated from any problems we might face. This in turn builds upon resilience and supports positive mental health.
At The Peak Adventure we are passionate about providing outdoor learning opportunities for young people. We invite our participants to step out of the classroom, out of their comfort zones, into the great outdoors and back into nature.
Our bespoke environmental and wellbeing based adventure programme use a variety of fun, imaginative and immersive activities to create a unique learning experience.
Our programme will not only provide opportunities to nurture positive mindsets but they will also teach participants the importance of conserving the natural world that we are part of.
Programme
Our not-for-profit model has allowed us to offer a flexible approach to outdoor learning in schools whilst enabling all of the income generated to be simply used to employ staff and develop more services for the wider community.
We have previously implemented after school, weekend and holiday clubs as well as in-school programmes and alternative provision sessions. The programme has now developed into an area wide pupil referral provision for young people at risk of exclusion.
Our activities take place at the Peak Adventure site at Robertsbridge Community Collage or in local areas such as parks, woodlands and within the South Downs National Park.
We also arrange adventure trips to wider locations such as Snowdonia and the Lake District.
Our programmes use a unique blend of activities mixing forest school, expeditions, survival, outdoor cooking, conservation, sustainability, reflection and natural exploration.
Alongside the projects above we have developed our programme into a groundbreaking digital app which works as a self-assessment tool for participants to log their activities and create their own unique digital adventure journey.
John Muir Award
Our adventures invite participants to Discover, Explore, Conserve and Share wild spaces so as part of the programme they will also come away with the nationally recognised John Muir Award.
The John Muir Award encourages people to connect with, enjoy, and care for wild places. It is an environmental award scheme for people of all backgrounds – schools, groups, families and individuals.
It is non-competitive, inclusive and accessible. People who have connected with their environment feel a sense of belonging, which is further increased by connecting with their community. Learning about the world, how it works, how we can function in it and being able to give some of our time for a good deed makes us feel valued.
NOT FOR PROFIT
Because we are a community interest company, all income we generate is simply used to employ staff and develop more services for the wider community. Not for profit means no shareholders are able to take profit out of the company, whatsoever.
As part of the work we do, The Peak Adventure are committed to raising funds so that we can offer adventures for vulnerable people. We do this throughout the year, working with grant funders and other stakeholders who are keen to support our mission. Every adventure we embark upon will help us with this mission. By being part of our adventures, you are directly helping us do more and for that, we thank you kindly.
Without the support of the community, The Peak Adventure would not have come to fruition and we would not be working to tackle issues like loneliness, low self-esteem, anxiety and a raft of wellbeing issues many people face.
